Light rail work to cause South 272nd lane closures in Kent

On certain dates in December

Construction for the extension of light rail from SeaTac to Federal Way will cause several lane closures along South 272nd Street and the Interstate 5 on-ramp this month.

Crews will be closing South 272nd Street between I-5 exit 147 and 26th Avenue South starting Tuesday, Dec. 8. Crews will be excavating, installing fencing and moving in construction equipment, according to Sound Transit.

These are single lane closures, so no detours will be in place. Commuters who normally travel this area in Kent should expect increased travel times. All project construction work is done under stringent COVID-19 health and safety guidelines.

The Federal Way Link Extension will open for service in 2024.

Lane closures

From 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on:

Dec. 8-10 – westbound South 272nd right lane closure

Dec. 11, 14-18 and 21-22 – eastbound South 272nd right lane closure

From 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on:

Dec. 14 – night closure of I-5 southbound on-ramp
