From singers to dancers, gymnasts to musical artist impersonators, more than 170 young performers from many backgrounds and cultures shone bright on stage for a February tradition – Let’s Dance for Heart – at the Kentridge Performing Arts Center on Friday night.

The entertainment-filled, sixth annual program raised more than $4,000 for the American Heart Association.

“This is the only show where all the performers from Kentridge High School get together to raise awareness and raise money for the American Heart Association for cardiovascular education, community programs and research,” said Denise Wiskow, a sports medicine and family health teacher, coach and Yoga Club advisor at Kentridge. “What a great way to bring everyone together and just dance.

“The students practice for the show for over four months,” Wiskow said, “and what a bonding experience for them for such a great cause. This show is my passion, and I just love directing and working with the students. It is so gratifying to watch them progress and put on an amazingly entertaining show.”

Wiskow was honored at the start of the show for her continued support for the AHA. Wiskow’s program has raised an estimated $20,000 for the cause since its inception.

The show was a tribute to those music artists who have passed on from heart disease and other unfortunate circumstances.

The entertainment lineup included performances from student-portrayed music stars; the Chatelaines; gymnasts and multicultural dancers from K-pop to hula; the Yoga Club; Steppers and Ballers; the Little Chargers; singers, solo and break dancers, and others.

The program was part of the school’s recognition of Heart Health Month.
