It will be a showdown between incumbent Leslie Hamada and challenger Donald Cook for a Kent School Board position on the Nov. 7 general election ballot.
Hamada had the most votes in the Aug. 1 primary while Cook took second among four candidates. The two candidates with the most votes advance to the general election.
With most ballots counted as of Aug. 8, Hamada had 48.14% (10,105 votes), Cook 23.91% (5,018 votes), Stephanie Lawson 19.23% (4,037 votes) and Lizz Morgan 7.97% (1,672 votes), according to King County Election results.
King County Elections will certify the election Aug. 15.
Lawson and Morgan have endorsed Cook.
Voters elected Hamada to the District 3 seat in November 2019 when she ran unopposed. Her four-year term ends in November 2023.
Other races
The only other school board race on the Nov. 7 ballot will be between Meghin Margel and Andy Carter for Position No. 2.
The board appointed Margel to the seat in September 2022 after Michele Bettinger resigned. Carter was a finalist for the appointment.
Andy Song also will be on the ballot as the only candidate for Position No. 1. Joe Bento decided not to seek reelection and nobody else filed for the seat.
Only races with more than two candidates were on the primary ballot.
Voters elected board members Tim Clark and Awale Farah to four-year terms in November 2021. Clark defeated Sara Franklin and Farah beat Brad Kenning.
