Leslie Hamada announced she is running for reelection to the Kent School Board.
“I’m in,” Hamada said in a Jan. 28 email to the Kent Reporter.
Hamada, of Covington, also included a quote from Robert Kennedy, “Some men see things as they are, and ask why. I dream of things that never were, and ask why not.”
On her election website, lesliehamada.com, Hamada said she wants to continue “putting kids first, making sure we look at everything with an equity lens and fiscal responsibility.”
Voters elected Hamada to the District 3 seat in November 2019 when she ran unopposed. Her four-year term ends in November 2023.
Hamada has filed with the state Public Disclosure Commission. The King County Elections filing week is May 15-19. The primary is Aug. 1 and the general election Nov. 7. If there are more than two candidates on the primary ballot, the two with the most votes advance to the general election.
Hamada is the only announced candidate so far this year for the five-member school board.
The terms of Joe Bento in District 1 and Meghin Margel in District 2 also end this November. The board appointed Bento to his seat in February 2021 to replace Leah Bowen after she resigned. Voters elected Benton in November 2021 when he ran unopposed. The board appointed Margel in September 2022 to replace Michele Bettinger, who resigned.
Voters elected board members Tim Clark and Awale Farah in November 2021 to four-year terms that expire in November 2025.
