A ribbon cutting and reception celebrated the official Historic Neighborhood District designation of the Mill Creek neighborhood last Saturday.
Granted by the King County Landmarks Commission, Mill Creek is the first neighborhood in Washington to receive the historic landmark designation outside of Seattle.
The commission approved the Mill Creek Neighborhood Association’s nomination for the designation in November.
County and city officials were on hand for the celebration.
The district is a well-preserved concentration of houses that reflect the development of Kent during the first half of the 20th century. The district’s general boundaries are Clark Avenue North to the west, Hazel Avenue North to the east, Smith Street to the south, and a portion of Cedar Street to the north.
