The Kiwanis Club of Kent commended 13 Kent School District students for their exceptional writing skills, compassion and commitment to language arts June 13 at an annual awards luncheon at the Golden Steer Steakhouse in Kent.
The students entered the Kiwanis Club Annual Essay Contest this spring, responding to one of three essay prompts with civic-minded themes. Their entries were graded by KSD high-school honors English students.
Senators and legislators from the Kent area were scheduled to attend the awards luncheon to honor the students for their work. The following students were recognized:
Eighth-grade division
First place — Kyle Koon, Mattson Middle School
Second place — Matthew Kuehn, Mattson Middle School
Third place — Jung Yang, Mill Creek Middle School
Honorable mention — Alannah Hed, Mattson Middle School
Honorable mention — Ian Durnford, Meridian Middle School
Honorable mention — Tejinder Kooner, Meridian Middle School
Seventh-grade division
First place — Karanbir Singh, Meeker Middle School
Second place — Amber Randall, Cedar Heights Middle School
Third place — Ryan Baker, Northwood Middle School
