For the Reporter
Four people have been displaced following a house fire in the 19400 block of 115 Place SE, the Kent Regional Fire Authority reported.
The first report to 911 at 4:40 p.m. Monday was of a kitchen fire that had spread to the walls. When firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming from the front door and quickly extinguished the fire before it could spread to other parts of the two-story house.
Fortunately, the two teens that were home at the time of the fire were able to get out safely. Both reported hearing the smoke alarms activating and quickly exited the house while also calling 911.
According to the Kent RFA, a neighbor did a great deal to protect the house by using a portable fire extinguisher prior to the fire department arriving. He helped keep the fire to the stove top area.
Evidence confirmed that the fire was accidental and started due to oil catching fire on the stove top.
The Kent RFA was assisted by the Renton Fire Department and King County Medic One at the fire.
