Classical KING FM is reminding the Northwest’s young musicians of the deadline to enter its second-annual Ten Grands Young Artist Awards, Jan. 14.

KING FM’s Ten Grands Young Artist Awards celebrates the talented youth of the Northwest who are pursuing their dreams in music. Youth between the ages of 6 and 18 who are non-professional acoustic instrumentalists, vocalists, or in an ensemble, and reside in Washington, Oregon, or Idaho, are invited to submit a 5-minute YouTube video showcasing their talents.

The Top Ten Finalists will participate in the Ten Grands Concert April 1 with the first-place winner earning a place as featured soloist center stage in Seattle’s own breathtaking Benaroya Hall. The grand prize also includes a $1,000 scholarship from KING FM.

Additional contest details include:

· All performers must be between the ages of 6 & 18 as of March 1, 2011, and legally reside in Washington State, Oregon, or Idaho.

· To be eligible for the competition, contestants must be available to perform at the Ten Grands Concert at Benaroya Hall on April 1, 2011.

· Entrants may use an accompanist. Non-acoustic music performances will not be accepted.

· Entries will be judged on total performance, not by the technical quality of video.

· There will be a round of public voting starting Jan. 17, in which the top 20 videos will be featured on KING.org.

The top ten finalists will play at the Ten Grands concert at Benaroya Hall. The grand-prize winner will give a 6-minute-or-less solo performance. Other selected finalists will perform as a group on stage and in the lobby before the concert and at intermission.

Entries will be judged in phases:

1. Jan. 14: all entries are due

2. Jan. 31: judging panel selects 20 semi-finalists from all entries.

3. Feb. 7: semi-finalist videos will be posted online for a public vote.

4. March 1: top 10 winners will be announced.

Complete contest rules, details, and entry form are online at www.king.org/tengrands.
