Residents can learn about the Lower Russell Levee setback project during a public meeting from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 25, in Room 283 at the Green River College Kent campus, 417 Ramsay Way at Kent Station.
Design of the Lower Russell Levee Setback project is nearing completion. The new levee will help prevent flooding in the area and help reduce flood insurance requirements. At the meeting, residents can see the latest designs and ask questions of the project team.
The project will:
• Replace and upgrade 1.4 miles of existing levee along the Green River between South 212th Street and Veterans Drive in Kent
• Relocate and improve the city’s Van Doren’s Landing Park and the Green River Trail
• Create shallow water and floodplain habitat along the river
The King County Flood Control District will pay for the estimated $52 million project. Construction is expected to start in 2019.
