The King County Council passed a bi-partisan bill on Monday that would have deferred three rounds of bus route cuts until new information, including results from an independent audit, could shed light on solutions to King County Metro’s high operating costs.
King County Executive Dow Constantine vetoed the bill shortly after its passage.
In response, King County Republican Party Chair Lori Sotelo released the following statement on Tuesday:
“For a brief moment, it appeared as though our county government listened to King County voters who, by soundly rejecting Proposition 1, demanded responsible and reasonable solutions to budget shortfalls,” Sotelo said. “Unfortunately, Dow Constantine is not ready to listen. His decision to veto a bill that had the bi-partisan support of elected officials throughout King County revealed his out-of-tune leadership approach.
“Far from being the adult willing to face reality, Constantine proved himself a short-sighted leader willing to take punitive measures after voters rejected his out-of-touch plan.”
