Players from Kentwood’s girls soccer team presented a check for $3,500 to staff at Covington MultiCare on Dec. 15.
The money was raised in the team’s collaboration with Kentlake’s girls soccer squad in the third annual Kicks for the Cure event which culminated during the Oct. 7 match between the Conquerors and the Falcons, who are rivals in the South Puget Sound League 4A North division.
A year ago the match raised nearly $5,000 for MultiCare’s Mammogram Assistance Program, which provides diagnostic services to women who can’t afford them at clinics in Covington and Auburn as well as the Carol Milgard Breast Center in Tacoma.
Kicks for the Cure began in 2009 when Kentwood coach Aaron Radford and his wife, Tara, came up with an idea that summer which would allow the team to give back to the community.
Tara Radford said the plan is to start working on the event earlier next year to raise more money.
Aaron Radford hoped the players learned about what it takes to put together an event like Kicks for the Cure.
