People attending events at the accesso ShoWare Center in Kent will find some major changes, including face masks required and the elimination of the outdoor smoking area.
The new updated safety protocols began Sept. 1 and include a clear bag policy and cashless food and beverage and box office sales. The mask mandate falls under an order by the King County health officer.
Several concerts and the Seattle Thunderbirds junior hockey season are coming up at the city-owned ShoWare Center, 625 W. James St. The Seattle Kraken will play the Calgary Flames in a NHL exhibition game on Oct. 2. The T-Birds home opener is Oct. 9.
Here are some of the changes:
• Clear bag policy- Clear bags no larger than 12” x 12” x 6” are allowed. One-gallon ziploc bags and smaller clutches not larger than 4.5” x 6.5” are also allowed.
• Cashless venue- Only card transactions will be allowed at the box office and for food and beverages. Cash will remain the transaction for chuck-a-puck and 50/50 raffles.
• Contactless entry- Walk through metal detectors may increase time it takes to enter building but reduces interaction with building staff.
• Smoke-free facility- There will no longer be an exterior smoking section and guests will no longer be permitted to leave the building and re-enter to smoke.
