Alexander Maloy, 16, a junior at Kentwood High School, and his brother, Joshua, 13, an eighth-grader at Mattson Middle School, earned their Eagle Scout rank, the highest youth achievement in Boy Scouts, at a court-of-honor ceremony Jan. 5.

Alex completed all rank advancements from Scout to Life, earning 33 merit badges along the way. His Eagle project was focused on land reclamation and cleanup of an archery range at the Cascade Rifle and Pistol Club in Ravensdale. Josh completed all rank advancements from Scout to Life, earning 26 merit badges along the way. His project also took place at the Cascade Rifle and Pistol Club focused on cleaning out the underbrush of a 200-yard-long berm along one side of a shooting range.

Alex and Josh are working toward earning more merit badges and qualifying for palm advancements.

Along the way, Alex and Josh served as senior patrol leaders, became advanced open water scuba certified and attended National Youth Leadership training.

In addition to being active scouters, Alex and Josh are avid swimmers and musicians. Alex is a team captain on his high school swim team and plays the trumpet in his school’s band. Josh swims on a club team and is the lead drummer for his school’s jazz band. Alexander plays water polo on a local club team with Joshua joining the team next season.

They are preparing to attend the National Scout Jamboree this coming July in West Virginia as members of a contingent representing the Chief Seattle Council.
