With a starting group of 26 people and support from the Rotary Club of Kent, the Kentridge High School Interact Club recently announced its official charter.

The group celebrated the occasion by holding a charter party/induction ceremony at the school’s library June 4.

The Kent Rotary presented the banner to the club on Tuesday.

Chartering members, their parents and Rotarians throughout the area celebrated the new club. Speakers included Edward Vargas, Kent School District superintendent and Rotarian, and Dr. Jennifer Levy, who was the chartering president for Kentwood Interact in 2003.

Each member was awarded a certificate and Interact Club pin.

Since its creation in 1963, Rotary International’s Interact club has become a worldwide phenomenon, with a membership of 200,000 teens in more than 10,700 clubs in 109 countries spread throughout the world. Interact brings together young people ages 12-18 years old who want to help make a difference in their community.
