Charles Freeman, a freshman at Kentridge High School, spent a week working as a page for the Washington State Senate at the Capitol in Olympia.
Freeman was one of 10 students who served as Senate pages during the second week of the legislative session.
Sen. Joe Fain, R-Auburn, who represents Kent in the 47th Legislative District, sponsored Freeman.
The Senate Page Program provides an opportunity for Washington students to spend a week working in the Legislature. Students are responsible for transporting documents between offices, as well as delivering messages and mail. Pages spend time in the Senate chamber and attend page school to learn about parliamentary procedure and the legislative process. Students also draft their own bills and engage in a mock session.
“I loved it. I highly recommend it to everyone else, I think it is a great experience,” Freeman said about his experience.
Freeman plans on having his associate’s degree before he graduates from high school and possibly one day work for the FBI.
Freeman enjoys participating in a myriad of extracurricular activities including his school’s diving team, his local Boy Scout troop, and his youth group for Kent Covenant Church.
Freeman, 14, is the grandson of Don and Peggy Ritchie of Kent.
