Kentridge High School senior Garrett Thornton is the 2021 recipient of the Don Barrows Memorial Scholarship awarded by the Federal Way Chorale.
The $2,000 scholarship is offered each year to a graduating high school senior who plans a college major in the vocal arts, musical theatre or music education, according to the Federal Way Chorale.
Thornton has been active in concert choirs, jazz ensembles, church choir and school and community musical theatre productions since he attended middle school.
His plans for the future include attending Western Washington University in Bellingham where he plans to complete a degree in music education with a minor area of study in audio engineering.
He plans to keep up his participation in stage productions, as he considers performing an important and integral part of his life. Thornton said he is excited to pursue his passion and is grateful for the support of family, friends and his community.
