Nachiketha Shamaprasad of Kentridge High School is one of 54 high school seniors from the state who have won 2011 National Merit scholarships.
Each student will receive a $2,500 scholarship that can be used at any U.S. college or university.
Shamaprasad was one of 2,500 national winners from a pool of 15,000 finalists, according to the National Merit Scholarship Corp.
The winners were selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors. The students are judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous
college studies.
The winners were announced May 4.
