Kent woman dies after being struck by vehicle

Late Saturday night on East Hill

Kent Police arrested a Seattle man for investigation of vehicular homicide after he allegedly ran over a woman late Saturday night in the 21200 block of 108th Avenue Southeast on the East Hill.

Ana Leal, 43, of Kent, died at the scene, according to Kent Police. Officers responded at about 10:30 p.m. to a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision. Life-saving efforts were administered by a person in the area and officers, but Leal couldn’t be revived.

“There were reports that the female had fallen into the roadway, and some reports indicate that she purposefully laid in the roadway wherein the vehicle ran over her,” said Kent Police spokeswoman Melanie Robinson in a Wednesday email. “Further investigation showed this may have stemmed from a domestic type situation that occurred between the female and her husband just prior to the incident. That part is still under investigation. Her level of intoxication is unknown.”

Traffic investigators at the scene decided to arrest the driver of the vehicle, a 62-year-old Seattle man, for investigation of vehicular homicide and DUI. He remained in custody Wednesday at the King County jail with bail set at $200,000. He has not yet been officially charged, Robinson said. He is unrelated to Leal.

Police continue to try to determine what role the woman’s husband might have played in the incident.

“I am uncertain at this time if there will be any charges brought about against the husband, but as of right now there are none,” Robinson said.

Detectives have a lot of aspects of the case to investigate.

“This appears to be a very tragic event that could have very well been prevented,” Robinson said.
