Bobbie (Barbara) Allen, profiled in the Kent Reporter with her husband Roland Allen after celebrating their 75th wedding anniversary on May 31, died June 24 from a stroke, according to her family.
“Feeling so blessed we could celebrate their 75th so recently and remember her when she was at her best,” said daughter-in-law Jan Allen, of Kent, in an email.
The family had a celebration for the couple at Farrington Court Assisted and Senior Living in Kent, where Roland and Bobbie Allen moved to 10 years ago from Bellevue.
“Just about anybody you talk to says they are ready,” Bobbie Allen, 96, said during a May 27 interview with the Kent Reporter about living during the pandemic at the retirement facility. “But you don’t get to say. I know it was hard to lose our son and we are still here.”
David Allen, who lived in Kent, died in 2015 at age 63 from pancreatic cancer.
Roland and Bobbie Allen were married in 1946 in Wichita, Kansas. They moved in 1968 to the Seattle area when Boeing transferred Roland Allen to Washington from its B-47 and B-52 manufacturing plant in Kansas to work on the SST (Supersonic Transport), a program later disbanded.
Survivors include her husband Roland Allen; daughter Audine (Dee) Holm, of Glendale, Arizona; daughter Debbie Allen, of Arlington, about 50 miles north of Seattle; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
