The city of Kent will open its Severe Weather Shelter the evenings of Sunday, Jan. 15, Monday, Jan. 16 and Tuesday, Jan. 17 due to dangerously low temperature predictions and snow.
The shelter is at Kent Lutheran Church, 336 Second Ave. S.
Check in and registration starts at 9 p.m. each night. The shelter closes at 7 in the morning and everyone must vacate the premises.
Priority is given to homeless families with children who are living on the streets or in vehicles, but the shelter is also available for unaccompanied women and men; separate sleeping space has been prepared for men, women, and for families with children.
Catholic Community Services staff and volunteers from Kent Lutheran Church and the greater Kent community operate the shelter.
As with all shelters, rules for the health and safety of clients, staff and the broader community will apply.
The National Weather Service predicts highs in the upper 30s and lows around 32 for Jan. 15-17. Less than a inch of snow is expected.
