Come welcome artists from throughout the Puget Sound region during the Kent Summer Art Exhibit and Reception from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4 at the city’s Centennial Center Gallery, 400 W. Gowe St.
People can get a first look at the art, a chance to meet the artists and enjoy light refreshments. All ages are welcome to attend the free event, made possible by generous, private sponsorship from Osborne Machler. The exhibit runs through Aug. 29.
Every summer, the Kent Arts Commission displays photographs, paintings, works on paper, prints and collages in the Kent Summer Art Exhibit. To be included in this show, artists from throughout Washington State submit digital images of their work.
The artwork chosen for this year’s show was selected by two professional artist jurors – Eunice Kim and Milan Heger.
The exhibiting artists are Lea Bishop, Melissa Cole, Jill Erickson, Cathy Fields, Randi Ganulin, Tatiana Garmendia, Bradly Gunn, Christopher James, Jerome Kaufman, Erik Korhel, Emma Levitt, Jennelle Marcereau, Holly Martz, Jim Matthew, Roy McGarrah, Gen Obata, Jesse Proebstel, John Romero, Carrie Schmitt, Joseph Steininger, Michael Taskey, Jan Tervonen, Melissa Wax, Grace Weston, Wendy Winkler, Suze Woolf and Junko Yamamoto.
To accommodate a large number of artworks of varying styles, the exhibit is displayed in the Centennial Center Gallery and adjacent conference rooms. This year 52 artists applied, and the jurors selected 54 artworks from 27 artists for exhibition. The exhibit is free and open to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, closed on holidays.
