The Kent Sister Cities Association is looking for candidates to serve as youth ambassadors to Norway and China for short-term stays with a host family. Past ambassadors have come from the Kent, Renton and Auburn areas.

The programs send students from the Kent area to the scenic communities/cities of Sunnfjord Norway, Tamba Japan, and Yangzhou China for two to three week durations during the summer. In exchange, Norwegian, Japanese and Chinese students visit Kent as Youth Ambassadors and stay with Kent ambassadors’ families.

The committees pay half the round-trip airfare to fly the student ambassadors to Norway and Japan, and the full transportation and visa costs for student ambassadors chosen to participate in the China program.

Any interested student must fill out an application and meet the requirements identified in the official Kent Sister Cities Association application packet. The application deadline for Norway applicants is March 1, and for China is March 29. The deadline for Japan applicants was Feb. 1.

Application forms are available at the activities offices at Kent high schools and at Kent Commons, 525 Fourth Ave. N.

More information is available on the city’s Sister Cities web site, www.ci.kent.wa.us/sistercities/index.asp.
