The city of Kent Severe Weather Shelter at Kent Lutheran Church will remain open Tuesday, Jan. 17 and Wednesday, Jan. 18 due to predictions of dangerously low temperatures and snow.
The shelter is at Kent Lutheran Church, 336 Second Ave. S.
Check in and registration starts at 9 p.m. each night. The shelter closes at 7 in the morning and everyone must vacate the premises.
Priority is given to homeless families with children who are living on the streets or in vehicles, but the shelter is also available for unaccompanied women and men; separate sleeping space has been prepared for men, women, and for families with children.
Catholic Community Services staff and volunteers from Kent Lutheran Church and the greater Kent community operate the shelter.
The Kent shelter has been open overnight since Sunday, safely sheltering approximately 20 men and women.
There are also shelters open in Renton, Federal Way, Bellevue, and Seattle. Please contact the Crisis Clinic by dialing 211 to access shelters in these other areas.
