Donna Worden received the Kent Lions Club Pete Gomes Sr., Senior Citizen of the Year award at the 2013 Volunteer Appreciation Event at the Kent Senior Activity Center.
Celia Reiss and her daughter Ann Lowe were chosen as the Kent Senior Activity Center Volunteers of the Year and Mary Friend at the Monday event. Mary Friend received the Longevity Award for 20 years of service.
The event included a catered luncheon co-sponsored by the Washington State Residential Care Council and the Kent Lions Club. Decadent desserts were provided by Mitzel’s American Kitchen (Kent) and Panera Bread (Kent Station). Door prizes were donated by Wild Wheat Bakery, Retired and Senior Volunteer (RSVP) Program and Kent Parks & Recreation.
The theme was “Lights! Camera! Auction,” and more than 100 volunteers were treated to a Readers Theater presentation by the Senior Center’s own Knot Quite Write Players, followed by a basket auction and a highlight DVD.
The Senior Center and the RSVP program recorded more than 47,000 hours of volunteer service from April 2012 through March 2013.
