Kent semi driver reportedly causes eight-vehicle crash near Cle Elum

Nobody injured but I-90 closed for six hours

The Washington State Patrol cited a 26-year-old Kent man for investigation of speeds too fast for the conditions after an eight-vehicle crash on Monday night along Interstate 90, about 2 miles east of Cle Elum.

Despite collisions among five trucks and three cars, nobody was injured, according to a State Patrol press memo. The crash, at about 8:13 p.m. along westbound I-90, closed the freeway for approximately six hours.

The Kent man, driving a 2013 Freightliner tractor with trailer, lost control and his truck came to rest jackknifed on the right shoulder. The driver of another semi tried to avoid the first truck, but lost control and came to a stop on the left shoulder, blocking the left lane. A third semi struck two other vehicles that were parked on the right shoulder and came to a halt on the right shoulder.

A sixth vehicle struck one of the cars on the car right shoulder and then fled the scene.

Two other semis, including one with a 34-year-old Kent driver, were traveling side by side and were unable to slow for the collision. The two trucks ended up colliding between the first two trucks that crashed.

All of the vehicles had to be towed because of damage.

Drugs or alcohol were not involved in the crash, according to the State Patrol.
