Volunteers are wanted for two projects in May at city of Kent parks.

Help is needed to assemble benches, do trail maintenance, remove new growth of any unwanted weeds and spread wood chips from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 14 at the Morrill Meadows Off-leash Dog Park, 10808 S.E. 248th St.

The second event is part of National Trails Day and runs from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 21 at the Morrill Meadows Park, 10600 S.E. 248th St., next to the dog park.

The park has trails that go through the meadow and the woods. Volunteers will refurbish the trails and plant native trees and shrubs.

Volunteers are asked to dress for the weather (no sandals or flip-flops), bring work gloves and a shovel, pruners or lopping shears if you have them. Water will also be provided, so bring your own water container and refill it from our cooler to reduce waste in our landfills.

Kent Parks, Recreation & Community Services volunteer events are perfect for students completing community service hours, scout troops, faith-based groups, co-workers, families, individuals and others who love being outdoors.

To keep our events manageable and safe, please register at least three days before each one. Forms are at www.KentWAParks.com; click on Volunteer. Or call 253-856-5110.

In addition, the city’s Green Kent Stewards are holding restoration work parties during May in areas around the city. To learn more or to volunteer for one of them, visit www.greenkent.org.
