With an increased focus on technology in schools, it can sometimes be hard for a parent to know (or afford) exactly what their students may need to start the school year.
Parents of seventh-graders who this year will be getting laptop computers through the district’s One-to-One program, for example, may not know how to accessorize the computer or how to meet any additional needs.
But those parents need not worry, according to Dani Pfeiffer, director of School Technology Services, the district will provide any mandated technology supplies having to do with the computers, including a specially designed case and backpack to carry the computers.
The computers and supplies are funded through the district’s technology levy, which was approved by voters in 2006.
According to Pfeiffer, some non-essential items, like a plug-in mouse also will be available for purchase through each school’s Associated Student Body.
Pfeiffer said the plan is to provide the computers to seventh- and eighth-graders over the next two years and then go back to voters with a levy to provide laptops to high school students as well.
For any other necessary supplies, Pfeiffer said all schools have a family advocate outreach to help families meet their back-to-school needs.
