The Kent School District has received a clean audit from the Washington State Auditors’ Office.

The annual Accountability Audit Report covered the period from Sept. 1, 2014, through Aug. 31, 2015.

In the areas audited, district operations complied with applicable requirements and provided adequate safeguarding of public resources, according to a press release from the school district. The district also complied with state laws and regulations and its own policies and procedures in the areas examined.

According to the press release, the audit found:

• No reported deficiencies in the design or operation of internal control over financial reporting

• No identified deficiencies in material weaknesses

• No instances of noncompliance that were material to the district’s financial statements

• No deficiencies in the design or operation of internal control over major federal programs considered to be significant deficiencies.

Independent audits provide essential accountability and transparency for district operations, and are valuable to management, the governing body and public stakeholders when assessing the government’s stewardship of public resources, the press release said.

“This is only possible when everyone in the organization works together to comply with the regulations, pursue excellence, and to honor the tax payer with diligence,” Ralph Fortunato, the district’s interim business chief, said in the release.
