The Kent School District will hold three virtual meetings to present findings about the boundary study and proposed next steps.
The meetings are Dec. 5, 8 and 10 for families, community members and staff. MGT Consulting Group will present its findings. The district hired the Florida-based group, which has a office in Olympia, to review current school attendance boundaries for all schools in the district. The Kent School Board in August approved a contract with MGT of up to $125,000 for the analysis.
The Kent School District will open a new elementary school on the West Hill in the fall of 2021, funded by the 2016 bond measure, which requires revising current school attendance boundaries. The opening of the new school will help reduce overcrowding in some schools and, eventually, help balance enrollment districtwide.
A final report and recommendations will be presented to the school board in January. If approved by the board, implementation of new school attendance boundaries will begin in the 2021-2022 school year. The last school boundary change was in 2008.
Team live events will be used for these meetings, which offers captions during the meeting in multiple languages.
If an interpreter is needed, send a request to Communications@kent.k12.wa.us and provide your language and the date of the meeting you plan to attend by 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 1.
