The race between Maya Vengadasalam and Bruce Elliott for Tim Clark’s vacant Kent School Board seat remains tight with the candidates splitting the vote.
Vengadasalam leads with 50.52 percent (7,868 votes) to 49.19 (7,661) as of Wednesday afternoon, a lead of 207 votes.
“It’s close. I thought it would be close, but I’m not going to get too excited. I’ll wait and see,” Elliott said.
Vengadasalam isn’t ready to declare victory just yet, but she remains confident her lead will continue as votes come in throughout the week.
“I still feel comfortable that we’re going to have a victory,” she said. “We’ll know more today, but we have a lot of last-minute voters.”
She said she will feel comfortable declaring victory if she still has the lead after 25,000 votes have been counted.
