Elisa Grant of Kent was awarded the Pacific Northwest Chapter – William Hunt Scholarship, (part of the American Society of Travel Agents Scholarship Fund), in the amount of $1,500, from Tourism Cares, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the travel experience for future generations.
Each year, the scholarships are presented to deserving travel, tourism and hospitality students at schools across the United States and Canada.
In addition to the monetary award, Grant has been given the opportunity to attend the Tourism Cares Experience: The Industry Student Program at the National Tour Association’s Annual Convention, held mid-November in Reno, Nev.
Grant first developed an interest in the hospitality industry during her senior year of high school, while attending the Puget Sound Skills Center. In five years, she hopes to have the opportunity to travel the world while working as a hotel critic.
Grant, a student at Highline Community College, is pursuing an Associate’s degree in hotel and hospitality management. She is expected to graduate in June 2010.
