Kent Rotarians participated in the 17th annual 50-mile Rainier to Ruston Relay last Saturday.
The relay took participants on a trail from the Carbon River Ranger Station in Mount Rainier National Park to Point Ruston in Tacoma.
Kent Rotary fielded a team of six runners, with each runner taking two legs. Running for Kent Rotary were Greg Haffner, Debbie Haffner, Axel Henning, Angrid Henning, Kate Matos and Jonathan Matos. The team completed the relay in 8 hours, 36 minutes and 58.5 seconds.
Runners enjoyed the journey from the majestic base of Mount Rainier to the waterfront of Tacoma on Ruston Way. Relay runners commemorated the old railroad by passing through bell stands in each town along the way to the sea. Runners traversed forests, passed through historic Washington towns and cites, finishing the run along a waterfront park with a view of Mount Rainier.
