Residents can learn about the Kent Police Department’s use of portable observation cameras, crime trends and other issues at a community meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11., at Panther Lake Elementary School, 10200 SE 216th St.
Police Chief Ken Thomas, command staff and other department personnel will discuss crime trends, prevention and other programs. Staff will give a special presentation about portable observation devices, also known as POD cameras, that can be placed at crime hot spots around town to get video surveillance.
Kent has two cameras under a pilot program. Each camera costs about $8,000, according to information posted on the Kent Police Facebook page. Kent posted a camera near the Great Wall Shopping Mall, 18230 East Valley Highway; and near the Chevron/McDonald’s along Southeast 240th Street.
Kent uses intelligence led policing to analyze crime data to determine where there is the most need in the community for different types of technology and programs.
