The Kent Police Department will host a community awareness meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 5 on the West Hill at Totem Middle School, 26630 40th Ave S.
The goal is to provide residents with more information to make their neighborhoods safer, according to a police media release.
The focus of the meeting is to bring police leadership and community members together to address community crime concerns and introduce resources that the police can provide to assist residents in making their neighborhoods safer and more secure.
Kent Police Chief Ken Thomas and agency administrators will be present to answer questions about department operations and community safety concerns. Members of the department’s Neighborhood Response Team and the department’s Community Education unit will be present to answer questions and take input regarding specific issues or concerns within the community. There will even be a special presentation hosted by SWAT members.
A cornerstone of the Kent Police strategy for creating safe communities lays in Intelligence Led Policing. This practice uses real-time crime intelligence, sharing information with our partners, pro-active problem solving, and community partnerships to address the issues of crime while improving the quality of life.
The department’s goal is to strengthen the partnership its established with citizens by building on the foundation it has set in place. The Kent Police Department hosts four community meetings each year, rotating them through various neighborhoods.
