Few leads for detectives in search for Asia Wilbon

Kent Police are looking for tips to help solve the department’s only open missing child case.

“We have not had any leads in some time,” according to a police statement released May 25 on the 40th anniversary of International Missing Children’s Day. “Someone knows something.”

Asia Wilbon was 16 years old, when she disappeared; she is now 19. Wilbon went missing on Feb. 13, 2020 from her father’s home on the West Hill of Kent, according to police.

“There were indications that Asia may have been near the Des Moines waterfront and/or near the Federal Way Transit Center (31621 23rd Ave. S.) shortly after she was last seen by her family,” according to police. “Asia was depressed at the time she disappeared due to the recent passing of her mother, who lived in North Carolina.”

According to the police statement, detectives have investigated every lead presented both in and out of state, but have yet to locate Wilbon. Her family has not heard from her since the date she disappeared.

Wilbon is 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighed about 135 pounds at the time she disappeared.

In 2021, the Washington State Patrol Homeward Bound program to find missing children featured photos of Wilbon on the sides of semi trailers. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children reports that one in six children are recovered due to the public viewing of a photo.

If you believe you have seen Asia, or know anything about her disappearance, call the Kent Police tip line at 253-856-5808 and reference Kent case number 20-2105. You can also email a tip to KPDTipLine@kentwa.gov.
