Kent Police seek man who reportedly tried to kidnap girl from apartment

Man allegedly reached into bathroom window to grab girl in attempted kidnapping

Kent Police are asking for the public’s help to find a man who reportedly tried to kidnap a child from an apartment at about 10:46 p.m. Friday, July 19.

Officers were dispatched to the 700 block of East James Street in regard to an attempted kidnapping, according to a July 21 Kent Police news release. The 911 caller said that an unknown man had reached inside a window of their home and grabbed their young daughter.

Officers quickly arrived in the area and were notified by the child’s parents that while she was in the bathroom, an unknown man had reached into the window, threatened her and grabbed their daughter by the hair, according to police. He pulled her upwards as if to take her through the window.

The man was unable to take her and ran off in an unknown direction. Multiple K-9 teams, Kent officers and the King County Sheriff’s Office Guardian 1 helicopter searched for the suspect, but he was not located.

The suspect is described as a Black male, 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall, on the thinner side, bald with some facial hair, according to police. The girl said he was “about the age of her dad” who is in his early 40s. The man was wearing a blue hoodie.

Kent Police are asking that residents who live near this address to check their cameras before and after 10:46 p.m. on Friday night, July 19 for footage of the suspect.

Anyone who believes they have caught the suspect on video or have any other information about the man or this incident, email KPDTipLine@kentwa.gov or call the police Tip Line at 253-856-5808. Refer to Kent case number 24-10033.
