Kent Police seek male teen driver in fatal hit-and-run on East Hill | Update

Teen reportedly driving stolen vehicle and fleeing police during Saturday, July 13 incident; victim identified

Kent Police are looking for a male teen driver who reportedly was driving a stolen vehicle when he crashed into another vehicle whose driver later died from injuries suffered in the collision.

Officers were dispatched at about 11:35 p.m. Saturday, July 13 to a report of a recently stolen vehicle spotted in the 23000 block of 100th Avenue SE, according to a July 16 Kent Police news release. The owner of the vehicle called 911 to report she had found her Hyundai Sonata in a nearby apartment complex and it was occupied with two people.

An officer quickly responded to the location, and after conferring with the owner to confirm this was her vehicle, he turned his vehicle around to make contact. As the officer approached, the stolen vehicle began to leave the parking lot, so the officer activated his emergency equipment and attempted to conduct a lawful stop, according to police.

The vehicle continued to move forward, initially at normal speeds. The driver eventually sped up and was southbound on 104th Avenue SE when he collided with an occupied vehicle, a Honda Civic, near the 26100 block of 104th Avenue SE, according to police. The collision was just more than 2 miles away from where the stolen car had first been spotted.

The driver of that vehicle sustained major injuries in the impact. Officers and medics provided immediate lifesaving care to the driver, a 41-year-old Auburn man, who was then transported to a local hospital. The man succumbed to his injuries days later, according to police.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man July 17 as Alizar A. Kachiyev, who died July 15 of multiple blunt force injuries.

The driver of the stolen vehicle fled on foot and has not yet been identified, according to police. A 14-year-old girl, the only other occupant of the stolen car, was found near the crash with a significant injury to her leg. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment. She did not identify the suspect driver, but said he was a male teenager, according to police.

The Kent Police Traffic Unit responded to the scene and is leading the investigation as to all the circumstances leading up to the collision.
