Kent Police released several video reenactments as part of the Des Moines Police investigation of the June 24 shooting death of Giovonn Joseph-McDade on the East Hill after a short vehicle pursuit.
In one of the videos, detectives talk to Devonte Cheeks, a passenger in Joseph-McDade’s vehicle. Cheeks was not injured during the pursuit or shooting.
In the other two videos, detectives talk to a ride-along passenger who was in the patrol vehicle with officer William Davis. Davis drove one of the patrol vehicles that pursued Joseph-McDade.
Davis responded to the call to assist officer Matthew Rausch. Davis is the officer who fired the shots that killed the Auburn man and former Kent-Meridian High School student-athlete when Joseph-McDade reportedly drove his vehicle toward Davis.
After pleas from relatives and friends of Joseph-McDade to release more information about the case, Kent Police Chief Ken Thomas decided to release documents and videos to the family and the media. Both officers have returned to duty.
