Kent Police will hold a drive for new blankets, pillows and sleeping bags to give to children in crisis who sometimes end up sleeping at police headquarters.
People can drop off the items from 7 to 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 24 under the breezeway between City Hall and the Police Department, 232 Fourth Ave. S.
Due to COVID-19, only new items will be accepted.
Residents asked Kent Police about how they can help out after police posted the following message on its Facebook page:
“In the early hours of the morning, our lunchroom is unfortunately sometimes a place for children in crisis to rest,” according to police. “We give them a snack, a place to be safe, and take care of them as long as it takes until their caseworker arrives. We are privileged to take care of our most vulnerable, while wishing it wasn’t necessary.”
