A man was killed at about 4:03 p.m. Wednesday after he was hit by a southbound Sound Transit Sounder train on the BNSF Railway tracks at South 212th Street and 77th Avenue South.
It was a Sound Transit commuter train, said BNSF Railway spokesman Gus Melonas in a phone call. Initial Kent Police reports indicated it had been an Amtrak train.
The man died on impact, Kent Police spokeswoman Melanie Robinson said in an email.
Sound Transit announced at about 4:30 p.m. that no further trains will depart Seattle’s King Street Station at this time. Passengers can take regularly scheduled buses which have been posted online.
This marks the second train-pedestrian death in two days in Kent.
A man was hit and killed by a southbound Amtrak train at about 7:50 a.m. Tuesday while walking on the BNSF Railway tracks near First Avenue South and West Willis Street.
“Trains move on any track at anytime,” Melonas said. “People need to be aware of traffic 24/7.”
