For the Reporter
The Kent Police Department has received several phone calls from citizens living in other jurisdictions wanting to know more information about a call they have received demanding payment for tax evasion.
The callers introduce themselves as federal and state police. They demand payment for an odd amount in lieu of having a federal warrant put out for their arrest. The phone number that comes up on caller ID is the same phone number for the Kent Police Department.
The payment instructions require the victim to pay using a “money gram.”
The Kent Police Department will never call citizens and ask them to pay using a money gram or money order.
Anyone receiving a suspicious phone call like this should contact their local police department for assistance.
