Kent Police are investigating two October home invasion incidents in a two-day span on the East Hill.
The first incident, an attempted home invasion, occurred on Sunday, Oct. 15, and the second, a home invasion robbery, on Monday, Oct. 16, according to an Oct. 17 Kent Police Department news release.
The attempted robbery incident was at approximately 12:50 a.m. in the 23800 block of 135th Avenue Southeast as the residents arrived home from a Seattle casino and walked to the front entrance.
Video footage from a Ring video camera doorbell showed the moment the unknown suspect ran up behind them. One of the victims, a woman, quickly stepped inside and locked the door on the suspect, video shows.
The suspect showed a handgun at their window but the residents did not allow him inside, according to the department. The suspect then proceeded to tear the Ring camera from the wall, video shows.
According to the department, the woman had noticed the vehicle turn onto their home street directly behind them and park a short distance away prior to the incident.
According to the department, only one suspect was seen during this incident. The department described the suspect as a “Black man in a puffy jacket.” Video shows the man wearing a mask covering his face.
The next day, a second home invasion incident occurred in the 12300 block of Southeast 204th Street as a member of the victim family stepped outside his home to smoke at about 1:30 a.m.
The man noticed an “unusual vehicle” parked across the street and as he turned to head back inside, several masked men ran up behind him and forced their way into the home, according to the department. The man reported that the men were all carrying firearms including rifles and handguns. The suspects stole cash and jewelry and forced the occupants to open their safe.
Patrol officers and detectives canvassed both neighborhoods for witnesses and video, according to the department.
Investigation into the incidents continues.
