Kent Police arrested two teens for investigation of homicide in the fatal shooting early Sunday morning of a 20-year-old man on the East Hill.
Detectives identified two suspects shortly after the shooting. An 18-year-old man, allegedly the shooter, turned himself in late Sunday night. A 17-year-old male, reportedly the driver of a vehicle that fled the scene, turned himself in Monday, according to a Kent Police news release. Both teens are in custody in the King County jail. The two are not being named by the Kent Reporter because they have yet to be charged with the crime.
The 18-year-old man was arrested earlier this year for second-degree assault, possession of a stolen vehicle and violation of juvenile parole, according to county jail records.
Patrol units responded around 1:30 a.m. to a report of gunshots being heard in the 13100 block of Southeast 261st Place.
Officers found a man shot and unresponsive, police said. Despite CPR efforts, the man died at the scene.
The early investigation indicated that there was a dispute between the victim and another individual who fled the scene before police arrived. Preliminary reports indicate that this was not a random incident, police said. According to witnesses, the motive appears to be a drug deal gone bad.
Witnesses reported a dark colored sedan fled the scene.
The King County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet identified the victim.
