Kent Police recently had three incidents that led to the arrests of two men and a woman with warrants.
An officer headed to work on Sunday, Sept. 10, along northbound Highway 167 near Willis Street, saw a vehicle pass his fully-marked police SUV going about 90 mph in a 60 mph zone, according to a Kent Police statement.
The officer pulled over the driver, a 22-year-old Kent woman. She told the officer she was in a hurry to get to her boyfriend’s house.
The officer then discovered the woman had a $25,000 warrant from King County for DUI. The officer arrested the woman on the warrant. She was booked into the King County jail.
Wanted man
Officers were doing pro-active patrol Monday, Sept. 11 around 600 West James Street. They contacted a 46-year-old Kent man who had multiple warrants, according to police. He was wanted for two counts of third-degree assault that stemmed from his last warrant arrest earlier this summer when he reportedly assaulted Kent officers. He also had $10,100 in warrants for domestic violence, including fourth-degree assault and interfering with reporting.
The man has been arrested several times for domestic violence assaults, according to police. In a 2020 incident he reportedly threw his victim down into a TV stand, causing a significant injury to her head, then grabbed her around the neck to strangle her. The woman fought back, bit him and stabbed him in the neck with a pen.
Robbery and drugs
Officers last week responded to a 911 call of a suspicious vehicle on West Meeker Street. They located a subject in a truck that had a punched ignition. The driver, and sole occupant, was in possession of multiple items of clothing with security sensors and tags still attached, according to police.
With auto and retail theft on the rise everywhere in the region, this seemed suspicious to the officers.
The suspect, a 32-year-old Tacoma man, initially tried to restart the car to drive off but seemed to forget that he had removed the screwdriver from the ignition, according to police. He was ordered out of the car when it wouldn’t start. Several adamant denials later, (“I borrowed the stolen car; the clothing was in the car when I borrowed it”), the officers determined that the driver had a no bail state Department of Corrections (DOC) warrant for escape from community custody for first-degree robbery.
He was taken into custody and transported to South Correctional Entity (SCORE) jail in Des Moines for his warrant. In addition to the vehicle and clothing, the suspect reportedly was in possession of drug paraphernalia and a baggie of fentanyl pills. He also had multiple ID and credit cards in many names not his own, plus a pad of paper containing personal banking information for other people.
Further investigation will be completed to develop additional charges, according to police.
