A Kent resident walking back home on Sunday after delivering a face mask to a friend suddenly came across officers carrying rifles and about eight police vehicles near an apartment complex in the 700 block of Fifth Avenue South.
“They all used no sirens. …it was scary quiet,” the resident said in an email to the Kent Reporter. “The situation was handled by the police with great quiet. Not a siren, no raised voices, quiet from the paramedics and the ambulances. I just happened to be out when this was going on.
“Since I live here, I want to know what happened and need to protect myself. I and another resident here have been victims of car theft. …things happen around here.”
Officers responded at about 4 p.m. Sunday, May 24, to a report of a suspicious circumstance, said Kent Police Cmdr. Robert Hollis in an email.
A Seattle man came to a residence and attempted to take some property, Hollis said. The man sustained injuries from the residents and attempted to leave.
Officers saw the man walking away in the parking lot and detained him, Hollis said. Paramedics transported the man to an area hospital for a cut to his head. The occupants of the residence had minor injuries.
Police booked the man into the King County jail for investigation of burglary and robbery, Hollis said.
The resident thought shots might have been fired, but Hollis said no shots were fired.
