A sampling of Kent Police incidents March 13-27:

March 13

Residential burglary: 10:25 a.m., officers were dispatched to a residential burglary in progress in the 21000 block of 119th Avenue SE. The victim was working at the Southcenter Mall in Tukwila when the suspects stole her vehicle, drove to her residence and began ransacking and stealing items of value. While this was occurring, the victim’s daughter arrived home and saw four suspects exit the residence, get into the victim vehicle and flee the area.

March 15

Vehicle stolen, juveniles booked: 4:02 p.m., officers located an occupied stolen vehicle at the Old Fishing Hole, 24945 Frager Road, and placed terminators by the tires to deflate them if the vehicle moved. Public address announcements were used. The vehicle took off east on Frager Road with two flat tires. Officers were not able to pursue the vehicle because of the state’s current pursuit laws. Officers then located the vehicle on Frager Road, close to West Valley Highway unoccupied. A search of the area was conducted, and a 12-year-old and a 14-year-old juvenile were located in the backyard to a residence off of West Valley Highway. Both juveniles were booked into King County’s Patricia H. Clark Children and Family Justice Center in Seattle.

March 16

Gun threat: 8:03 p.m., officers were dispatched to a threat with weapon at Arterra Townhomes, 10031 SE 258th Pl. The female suspect had pointed a gun at the male resident over a Snapchat-based dispute with his daughters. Officers responded to the suspect’s location, she exited the apartment and was detained without force. A search warrant was granted, and officers cleared the apartment finding the referenced gun. The suspect was booked for second-degree assault.

March 17

Self storage burglary: 1:15 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the East Hill Village Self Storage, 10223 SE 256th St., regarding a burglary. During the early morning hours on multiple days, the suspect(s) broke into at least 12 units and took items. The issue began when one tenant began sharing his code with others. Video surveillance captured the incidents.

Struggle with officers: 4:35 p.m., officers were dispatched to Driftwood Apartments, 1610 W. James Pl., for a report of sounds of someone throwing rocks at the gym windows. An officer located two suspects coming out of the south side of the gym. One male had dark objects in his hand, and he kept trying to put his hands back into his waistband despite being told not to. A struggle to control the male ensued during which one officer fell backwards trying to take the suspect to the ground. The officer hit his head on the hard dirt and the heavier suspect landed on the officer’s head. After a bit more struggle the male was placed into handcuffs. The officer was transported to Multicare Covington Medical Center. Both suspects were booked into the city of Kent jail for various offenses.

Reckless driving: 10:44 p.m., officers pulled over a recklessly speeding Dodge Challenger. The driver blew a 0.367 on a portable breath tester. He was arrested and booked into the city of Kent jail.

March 23

Food mart burglary: 5:27 a.m., officers were dispatched to an alarm at the M&J Food Mart, 427 E. Smith St. Three suspects were actively breaking into the business. When the suspects were challenged, two suspects ran from the store and got into a vehicle driven by the third. The vehicle ended up in a creek. One suspect was taken in custody.

March 24

Injury crash: 8:54 p.m., officers responded to a two-car collision at 68th Ave. S./S. 196th St. The injuries were significant. One vehicle was traveling west on S. 196th St. with the green light in his favor. The other involved was travelling south on 68th Ave. S. at a high rate of speed, running the red light. A T-bone collision occurred and the sole occupant of the vehicle traveling south was severely injured. He was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in critical condition. The sole occupant of the vehicle travelling west did not sustain any injuries.

March 25

ATM taken: 8:41 a.m., officers were dispatched to a burglary report that occurred at the Great Wall Mall, 18230 E Valley Highway. A suspect drove through the front doors of the mall, continued through the main hall until it reached the ATM. The suspects used the vehicle to clear a path and to dislodge the ATM. Two suspects loaded up the ATM and drove back out of the mall the way they came. The vehicle was recovered in the 11200 block of SE 200th Street with the ATM in the back. It was a reported stolen vehicle out of Renton.

Stabbing: 3:31 p.m., officers were dispatched to a stabbing within a residence in the 24800 block of 96th Ave. S. The victim was doing laundry and sitting on the couch when he was stabbed in the ear by his girlfriend’s adult daughter. The suspect admitted to stabbing the victim but would not disclose why.

March 26

Home invasion: 12:06 a.m., a family was home in the 10200 block of SE 243rd Street when two males broke into the house by smashing the rear glass door. They demanded money and eventually ran out through the backyard.

Malicious mischief: 12:29 a.m., officers responded to Pembrooke Apartments for a domestic violence call. The protected party on a no contact order came to the location after being invited by the respondent. The protected party was assaulted by the respondent’s sister. The respondent was arrested for a no contact order violation after she showed texts where all day the two had communicated over food being delivered and child custody. A half hour later, the protected party returned to the apartment and destroyed the resident’s doorknob as she wouldn’t answer the phone. The protected party was arrested for domestic violence malicious mischief.

March 27

Stolen van: 2:20 a.m., officers were dispatched to a report of a moving van with a small fire in the back at Days Inn, 22420 84th Ave. S. Officers did a stop on the vehicle and two people exited. The van was stolen out of Renton. The suspects had bragged about having a stolen van for an extended period of time. The male suspect was booked for a $25,000 fourth-degree assault domestic violence warrant and vehicle trespass. The 8-month pregnant female was released, and her information was passed along to resources to try and get her off the streets.

Standoff with police: 11:30 a.m., officers attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle that fled eastbound on Kent-Kangley Road from 104th Ave. SE. Officers did not pursue due to the state’s current pursuit laws. A few minutes later the same vehicle collided with the front entrance sign to the Sterling Ridge Apartments, 11328 SE Kent-Kangley Road. The driver fled into an apartment at the complex. The apartment was surrounded by police, and the driver was identified as having an first-degree assault DV warrant, and several others, out of Pierce County. He eventually surrendered, with the assistance of Auburn negotiators, and was taken into custody.

Multiple gunshots: 10:17 p.m., officers were dispatched to multiple reports of 15-20 gunshots and a car wrecked into a fence in the area of 46th Ave. S. and S. 216th St. As officers arrived in the area, they heard more shots being fired. The officers located the vehicle into the fence and a male exiting the vehicle. He was detained and claimed he was shot at by two males in a black Cadillac. Officers located casings at that scene and a black sideview mirror on the roadway. As the investigation continued, officers located casings in the park to the north. The detained male had denied shooting and claimed this was a dispute over a car purchase. A female then drove up claiming the male officers had in custody shot her house up. Officers located casings at her house as well as the Cadillac with bullet holes in it, a flat tire and a missing side view mirror cover. She claimed the male shot her house then fled but she denied knowing who shot at him.

Major emphasis patrol

On March 20, police conducted a joint operation with state Liquor and Cannabis Board officers to conduct compliance checks at alcohol retailers, targeting sales of alcohol to minors. Eight retailers were visited. The co-owner of one retailer (a bar) sold alcohol to a minor and was cited.
