Kent Police Blotter: July 24 to Aug. 7

A sampling of Kent Police incidents July 24 to Aug. 7:

July 24

• Carjacking at apartments: 8:48 p.m., officers were dispatched to a carjacking at the Atrium on James Apartments, 6248 S. 242nd Pl. When a woman got out of her vehicle, two armed suspects approached her, threatened to shoot her and stole her vehicle. On July 28 Seattle Police recovered the vehicle and arrested two suspects. One subject fled from the vehicle and was not located.

July 25

• Carjacking at fitness club: On July 25, at 1:14 a.m., officers were dispatched to a carjacking at the 24-Hour Fitness parking lot in the 20600 block of 108th Ave. SE. When the victim arrived at work, three masked suspects opened his vehicle door, pulled him out and took his phone and vehicle. At 11:33 p.m., Renton Police dealt with a vehicle collision in the 14000 block of Petrovisky Road involving the stolen vehicle. Officers made one arrest.

July 26

• Bank theft: Officers were dispatched to a theft report at the U.S. Bank, 305 Fourth Ave. N. Approximately $13,000 had been stolen from the bank overnight. Officers were able to track the money to a residence in Tacoma which belonged to an employee of the cleaning company which services the bank. During questioning, officers were able to get the suspect to provide a full confession and recovered almost all of the money.

July 28

• Gunshots exchanged: 2:22 a.m., officers were dispatched to a shooting at a residence in the 10200 block of SE 237th St. The victim’s residence had been shot up. The homeowner stated she believed the target of the shooting was her son who lived at the location as he had been involved in criminal activity. When the shooting began, she grabbed her firearm and went outside to see one suspect standing near her residence. She fired one round into the air, but the suspect continued to shoot more rounds in her direction. The victim then returned fire and the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle.

July 29

• Basketball court shooting: On July 29, at 10:20 p.m., an officer was dispatched to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle regarding a shooting in Kent. The victim had been at the basketball courts within the Cascade Apartments, 20402 106th Ave. SE, when a vehicle pulled up. Someone within the vehicle yelled out to the victim and then fired multiple rounds hitting the victim twice.

Aug. 3

• Gun aimed at driver: 3:21 p.m., officers were dispatched to an assault which occurred in the 26600 block of Central Ave. S. The victim was traveling southbound in her vehicle when the suspect pulled up beside her traveling in the same direction. The suspect began yelling and pointed a handgun directly at her. The victim slowed down to get away and began recording the suspect’s vehicle with her phone. The suspect appeared to see this and in turn, slowed down, got beside her again and pointed the handgun at her a second time. The victim sped up to get away. She was able to navigate an intersection in Auburn causing the suspect vehicle to get hung up at a red light and notified police.

Aug. 4

• Threat with a gun: 4:32 p.m., officers were dispatched to a threat with a weapon incident within the Arden Park Apartments, 23817 108th Ave. SE. The victim was walking through the parking lot when she noticed the suspect holding and pointing a gun at her making the gesture of shooting. Officers were able to identify the suspect, make an arrest, obtain a search warrant for the suspect’s residence and collect all of his firearms.

Aug. 5

• Stabbing on Pac Highway: 3:57 a.m., officers were dispatched to a stabbing that was thought to have occurred near the Fred Meyer in the 25200 block of Pacific Highway S. The victim was not in stable condition and was sent to the hospital for emergency surgery. The victim had been drinking at JJ’s Bar and Grill, 23826 Pacific Highway S. When he was done, he began walking home southbound on Pacific Highway. He was then approached by the unknown suspect who had a knife in his hand and demanded his cellphone. When the victim refused, the suspect stabbed him in the abdomen and took the phone anyway.

Aug. 7

• Shots fired: 3:40 p.m., a red sedan drove by/through Park Place Apartments, 1406 Maple Lane, with the rear passenger shooting from the vehicle. Bullet fragments were recovered from a Mercedes GL450 as well as several different calibers of casings from the ground in the area. Witnesses said they had theories on who the shooter was but declined to share with officers.

Racer emphasis patrol

• A small racer emphasis with Kent PD and Renton PD officers was held on July 29. A racing group was organizing an event that night in Fife, Tacoma and Kent. Pierce County had a large emphasis and prevented the group from racing anywhere down south. The group attempted to move to Kent but were deterred by the KPD units. The group then moved to Renton and very briefly did donuts in the IKEA parking lot before being broken up by the RPD units. The group then left the area. The combined deterrence from both Pierce and King County agencies was extremely effective at preventing racing crimes and left the racers very frustrated, according to police.
