A sampling of Kent Police incidents Jan. 14-24:

Jan 14

Death by train: 6:35 p.m., patrol was dispatched to a train vs. pedestrian accident in the 800 block of First Avenue North and the BNSF Railway tracks. According to the conductor, the victim laid down on the tracks just before a southbound train hit the male in an apparent suicide. Downtown traffic was affected for a few hours.

Gunshot wound: 8:45 p.m., Renton Police advised of a male at Valley Medical with a gunshot wound. The victim stated he was shot in Kent in the area of the bus stop at South 240th Street/Pacific Highway South. The victim had non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to the hand and leg. The victim would not provide any details to what occurred and was uncooperative.

Jan. 16

Zoom hack: 11:08 a.m., a teacher reported she was running a Zoom meeting for African preschoolers in the “First Five Years” program. There were nine devices logged on to start. A short time later a white female appeared and yelled “shut up” over and over. Then about 45 other devices/people logged on. Many yelling racist words. One person with an Arabic accent posted several photos of Black males killed by the police and another male exposed his buttocks. The incident was recorded and forwarded for investigation. It appears the Zoom meeting link was leaked on Twitter.

Jan. 18

Gun displayed: 7:56 a.m., a female was outside at Atrium Apartments, 6248 S. 242nd St., smoking, when a group of unknown individuals asked for a cigarette. She refused and a verbal altercation ensued. The victim’s boyfriend walked out of the apartment and confronted the suspects about scaring the female. One of the group pulls out a gun, points it at the boyfriend and states he is with a “Tukwila set” and that he was a “shooter” inferring he was in a gang. Another suspect then began reaching into his jacket implying he was reaching for a gun as well. Officers located the fleeing suspect vehicle and followed it as it got onto northbound Highway 167, where a high-risk stop was conducted. Two of the four suspects were arrested, and the vehicle was taken awaiting a search warrant as a gun could be seen on the floorboard.

Jan. 22

Armed robbery: 7:20 a.m., officers were dispatched to an armed robbery in progress in the 24400 block of 109th Place SE. After being gone for three days, the homeowner returned to find the house ransacked. He found a suspect on his couch with both of the homeowners AR-15 rifles beside him. The homeowner quickly grabbed one, then the suspect grabbed the other. The two remained in a standoff while the homeowner called 911. A short time later after the house had been surrounded by officers, the homeowner agreed to exit the house. Once he exited, officers reported hearing a single gunshot from inside the residence. Moments later a 20-year-old man exited the rear of the house carrying an AR-15. Officers at the rear of the house challenged the suspect who dropped the rifle and was taken into custody.

Domestic violence assault: 9:44 p.m., patrol was dispatched to the Berkeley Heights Apartments, 22804 90th Way S., for an injured woman who was locked in a bathroom and been involved with a fight with her boyfriend where she was strangled to unconsciousness. The suspect was still inside the apartment. Forced entry was made into the bathroom. The suspect fought with the officers. As he resisted arrest, after a couple of Taser applications, he was handcuffed, transported to King County jail and booked.

Jan. 24

Sex crime: 1:04 a.m., patrol initiated a sex crime investigation that had just occurred involving a 5-year-old victim and a 14-year-old suspect at the Silver Springs apartments, 22416 88th Ave. S. The victim was taken to Children’s Hospital for a sexual assault evaluation.
