Kent Police Blotter: Dec. 5 to Jan. 9

A sampling of Kent Police incidents from Dec. 5 to Jan. 9:

Dec. 5

Carjacking: 9:52 p.m., officers were dispatched to a carjacking at the Highland Green Apartments, 1015 SE 236th St. A female had just parked her vehicle in the parking lot when she noticed a vehicle parked nearby occupied by two males. One of the males exited the vehicle, pointed a firearm at her, and demanded her keys and stole her vehicle. The victim’s vehicle was recovered the following night after crashing into a business in Auburn. The driver that fled the collision matched the description of the suspect who carjacked the vehicle.

Dec. 7

Officers attacked: 7:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to a domestic violence (DV) order violation where the suspect was armed with a knife. While arresting the subject, he assaulted two officers and later a third before being transported to jail. The subject also broke out a rear side window and dented the frame of a patrol vehicle. The subject was booked into jail.

Dec. 10

Apartment shooting: 9:53 a.m., officers were dispatched to a shooting at Alvista Lake Meridian Apartments, 14901 SE 272nd St. The shooting had occurred sometime overnight. No one was injured, and the suspect(s) randomly fired multiple rounds into the residence.

Dec. 11

Assault: 7:31 a.m., officers were dispatched to a residence on the East Hill after an elderly woman escaped her home and ran to a neighbor’s house to call 911. The woman had been assaulted by her husband. The husband had strangled the woman on at least three separate occasions, causing her to lose consciousness for a period of time, after an attempt to cut her throat with a kitchen knife failed. The husband has a history of mental illness which has been escalating. Officers were able to talk the man out of the house and arrest him without incident. Officers took great care in getting the wife to safety and services and securing the necessary evidence to charge the man.

Dec. 12

Nail spa robbery: 8:10 p.m., officers were dispatched to a robbery at a nail spa at 10216 SE 256th St., No. 101. The suspect fled in a vehicle. Nobody was injured, but the suspect stole some personal items from a couple of customers before fleeing. Video footage showed the suspect entered the nail spa and fired a handgun round into the ceiling. On Dec. 19, at 5:09 p.m., detectives observed a robbery suspect related to the listed case arrive at his home, Island Park Apartments. Patrol responded and took the juvenile male subject into custody without incident.

Dec. 14

Felony harassment: 7:58 p.m., officers responded to a DV with a weapon in the 5800 block of S. 231st St. Dispatch received a 911 call from a juvenile stating mom and dad were fighting and mom had a knife. The female suspect was armed with a large knife and the male victim and children had barricaded themselves in a second-story bedroom away from the female. Officers knocked and announced their presence asking to have the door opened, but after they received no response, they attempted to use a battering ram to make entry. After the initial strike to the door, the female suspect became compliant and started shouting to wait and she started to open the garage door. Female suspect was taken into custody without further incident and arrested for investigation of felony harassment as she had threatened to kill both her husband and his father several times while holding the knife. The 32-year-old arrested female was transported to the King County jail without incident.

Dec. 15

Shots fired: 5:55 a.m., officers were dispatched to a shooting at a residence in the 20600 block of 101st Ave. SE. The residents were not injured, but their residence had been struck by gunfire. Video shows two suspects associated with a vehicle were seen walking up to the residence and firing 12-15 rounds at the victims.

Barista robbery: 7:40 p.m., officers were dispatched to a robbery at the Bigfoot Java, 23803 West Valley Highway S. Two armed suspects associated with a vehicle came into the business and robbed them. During the robbery, one of the suspects demanded that an employee open the safe. When the employee said she didn’t have the code; the suspect fired a round into the ceiling. The suspects took the employees belongings and fled the scene.

Dec. 16

Hotel robbery: 12:50 a.m., officers were dispatched to a robbery at the Hampton Inn and Suites, 21109 66th Ave. S. The suspect committed a takeover style robbery. Officers reviewed the video surveillance and found that the suspects appeared to be the same who committed the earlier robbery at Big Foot Java. Officers were aware that the suspect’s prior vehicle had been located and recovered at an apartment complex in Kent. Officers went to that same location and located the vehicle.

Assault, stolen vehicle: 11:40 a.m., an officer was dispatched to the Olympic Skyline Apartments for the recovery of a stolen vehicle. While in route, the call was updated to an assault with a weapon and the vehicle was taken again. The victim’s vehicle had originally been taken from Federal Way. They eventually tracked the vehicle to Kent and called 911. While waiting for the police to arrive, the suspects were still in the vehicle, assaulted the victim and hit her with the vehicle when they fled the scene. The victim was taken to the hospital for further medical treatment.

Dec. 17

Dollar Tree shooting: 11:07 a.m., officers were dispatched to a shooting in the Dollar Tree parking lot, 23406 Pacific Highway S. Both the suspect and victims had fled the scene. Video surveillance was located which captured the incident. The suspect exited a vehicle, engaged another vehicle, and eventually fired at the occupants.

Delivery driver robbery: 9:33 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Country Glenn Apartments, 27400 132nd Ave. SE, for a robbery. The victim, a delivery driver for Amazon, went to the apartment complex to make a delivery when two suspects abruptly contacted her, pointed guns, and robbed her of her cellphone. The suspects were last seen on foot inside the Birch Creek Apartments complex, 27360 129th Place SE.

Dec. 19

Carjacking: 4:31 a.m., officers were dispatched to a robbery/carjacking that occurred at the Valli Kee Apartments, 23401 104th Ave. SE. The victim had abrasions to his face and arms. The victim was warming up his vehicle, cleaning it at the same time, and made several trips to a dumpster. On one occasion the suspect was sitting in the driver’s seat of his vehicle. The victim physically fought with the suspect and at one point wrapped his arms around the suspect’s head. The suspect put the vehicle in motion which drug the victim. The victim fell to the concrete after hitting a curb.

Pedestrian hit: 3:41 p.m., a 31-year-old female was struck by a vehicle as she was walking in the crosswalk at 109th Ave. SE and SE 248th St. She was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with serious injuries. The driver of the vehicle that struck the female was cooperative with the investigation and stayed on scene.

T-Mobile store robbery: 8:02 p.m., officers were dispatched to a robbery that occurred at the T-Mobile store, 25246 Pacific Highway S. Two armed suspects entered the store and committed a takeover style robbery. The suspects stole several cell hones and demanded car keys from one of the employees. The suspects fled in the employee’s vehicle which had an air tag on the key chain. Tukwila and Renton assisted in trying to locate the vehicle which was found unoccupied in Renton. The vehicle was recovered, but the suspects are still outstanding.

Dec. 22

Home invasion: 6:55 p.m., officers were dispatched to a home invasion robbery at a residence in the 4000 block of S. 262nd St. Two suspects, armed with firearms, entered the residence through the back door and ransacked the residence taking money, pursues and jewelry.

7-Eleven robbery: 11:35 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 7-Eleven store at 10255 SE 240th St., regarding a robbery that just occurred. Four to five suspects entered the store, one pulled out a gun and pointed it at the clerk. The suspects took money from the till and cigars from behind the counter before fleeing.

Dec. 25

DUI on Central: 1 a.m., officers were dispatched to a vehicle collision involving two vehicles at the intersection of Central Avenue North and East Smith St. Officers and Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority arrived on scene and found a Toyota van in the seating area of the Jack in the Box restaurant and a silver Ford Explorer in the oncoming lanes of eastbound East Smith St. The Ford Explorer was traveling at a high rate of speed south on Central Ave N, the driver later admitted to driving around 75 mph and ran the red light impacting the Toyota van that was traveling west on East Smith St. The van was carrying a family of six, the mother and her children ranging in age from about 1 year old to 17 years old. The driver of the Ford Explorer was taken into custody for investigation of DUI. The family was transported to Harborview Medical Center for a varying range of injuries.

Apartment shooting: 8:50 p.m., officers were dispatched to a shooting that occurred within the Arbor Chase Apartments. 1615 W. Smith St. A group of subjects had been in a dispute and someone had discharged a firearm. No one was injured.

Dec. 26

Assault: 12:42 a.m., officers were dispatched to a shooting that occurred at the Groves Apartments. There also was a hit-and-run collision and vehicles speeding through the complex. There were multiple parked vehicles that had been hit or displaced in their parking stalls and at least one vehicle struck with gunfire. During the investigation officers determined the shooting occurred from or during a domestic situation and one subject was arrested for assault DV. Officers were able to take the suspect in custody.

Dec. 27

Illegal discharge: 1:21 a.m., officers were dispatched to an illegal discharge in the 11500 block of SE 264th Pl. Officers located a victim residence where a single round had entered their home. Three more rounds had struck their fence.

Dec. 30

Assault: 8:10 p.m., officers were dispatched to an assault within the Circle K Mobile Park, 827 W. Valley Highway. The victim exited his residence and walked over to his vehicle to grab something. When he was bent down inside, he heard an object hit his window. He stood up, turned around and saw a subject standing next to him who struck the victim in the face with an unknown liquid that smelled like bleach. The suspect fled on foot after the assault. The victim later went to Valley Medical in Renton for further treatment.

Jan. 2

Street robbery: 12:49 a.m., officers were dispatched to a robbery that occurred in the intersection of 106th Ave. SE and SE 235th St. The victims were walking to a friend’s residence when they came upon the suspect who was walking in their direction. The suspect asked for a cigarette, and when the victims said they didn’t have one; the suspect pulled a handgun and robbed them of their wallets, credit cards and money.

Jan. 5

Goodwill robbery: 7 p.m., an officer was dispatched to a theft at the Goodwill, 315 Washington Ave. S. Two suspects had been inside the store and lit some clothes on fire in one of the isles. When employees directed their attention to put the fire out, when the suspects ran out of the store with two carts for of stolen items.

Jan. 6

Vehicle used as weapon: 1:15 p.m., officers were dispatched to a vehicle versus pedestrian accident at the Jiffy Lube, 10312 SE 256th St. The “accident” was actually intentional as the victim had been at the suspect’s residence repairing the suspect’s vehicle. The victim allegedly stole the suspect’s tools and left the residence. The suspect began searching for the victim, located him at Jiffy Lube and decided to run him over with his vehicle. The victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center due to his injuries and the suspect was booked into jail after being interviewed by detectives.

Jan. 8

Harassment: 12:26 a.m., officers were dispatched to a DV with a gun in the 900 block of Fourth Ave N. Officers arrived and set up a perimeter and started making PA announcements. After a few minutes a male and two females exited the residence. There were elderly people and children still inside the residence. After clearing the house and confirming they had already detained the suspect, officers learned the suspect and the victim were boyfriend/girlfriend. They had been at the home celebrating the Vietnamese New Year during which they were consuming alcohol. An argument started after some of the attendees wanted to go to bed, while others were not ready. The suspect and the victim were in an upstairs bedroom arguing, during which the suspect pulled out a handgun. The suspect was arrested and booked into the Kent City jail for harassment.

Street racing shooting: 1:15 a.m., officers were dispatched to a vehicle versus pedestrian accident that occurred within the Chevron parking lot, 18015 East Valley Highway. Someone had shot at the driver of the vehicle who hit the pedestrians. Upon arrival officers found the individuals on location were attending the street races. The suspect vehicle apparently started to drift in the parking lot and hit two people. One of the people ended up pinned underneath another vehicle. Someone ended up shooting at the at-fault driver. Officers located casings at the scene, but the driver of the vehicle and others involved fled the scene.

Handgun threat: 4:06 a.m., officers were dispatched to a DV with a gun in the 25400 block of 110th Ave. SE. The male suspect was outside of the victim’s apartment pointing a handgun at the victim who was standing behind a window recording him. The suspect and the victim have two no contact orders in place and multiple warrants. The suspect fled the scene and was not located.

Male with machete: 4:58 p.m., patrol was dispatched to Birch Creek Apartments, 27360 129th Place SE, for a brother threatening his family with a machete. The suspect was upset about a missing cat and was threatening to kill his family if not returned. Patrol located the suspect near the outdoor back patio and immediately tried to de-escalate him. When the suspect was asked to walk back to the officers with his hands up, he fled into the residence where his family was. Fearing he was going to arm himself again a less lethal device was deployed but unsuccessful. After a short foot pursuit, a less lethal device was deployed again and was successful. The machete was recovered, and the suspect was booked into King County jail for felony harassment.

Jan. 9

SWAT responds: 10:57 a.m., officers were dispatched to a DV with sounds of someone breaking items at Birch Creek Apartments, 27360 129th Place SE. The suspect had fled prior to the officers’ arrival and upon investigation had probable cause for felony DV. The suspect also had a DV assault 2 warrant out of the King County Sheriff’s Office. Officers saw the suspect enter an abandoned trailer on the north side of the Birch Creek fence. The suspect refused to exit and due to her history and seriousness of the crime, on-duty SWAT and negotiators were requested with Port of Seattle Police on duty and Auburn Police negotiators responding. A search warrant was eventually approved and after assorted less lethal munitions were used on the trailer, the suspect was taken into custody without injury.

Major emphasis patrol

• On Dec. 9, a shoplifting emphasis was conducted at Target, 26301 104th Ave. SE. There were eight arrests made with a total value of recovered merchandise at $3,825.
