A sampling of Kent Police incidents from Aug. 28 to Sept. 8:

Aug. 28

Burglary arrest: 5:24 a.m., officers responded to a residential burglary in progress in the 800 block of Second Avenue North. There were four occupants inside the home and one of them witnessed the suspect rummaging through their property. Two were able to escape from bedroom windows. Officers were about to make entry when the suspect gave up. The remaining two occupants were unharmed. The suspect was booked into the King County jail.

Hit-and-run driver: 6:43 p.m., officers responded to a report of a recent hit and run at the intersection of State Route 167 and 84th Avenue South. A witness followed the suspect to James and Central. The female driver immediately became uncooperative, stated she was scared of the officers and demanded a supervisor to the scene. The driver was ultimately arrested for DUI, hit and run, and reckless endangerment (child in the car). The suspect was uncooperative during the entire contact and tried to assault the officer at the hospital during the blood draw.

Sept. 2

Running on tracks: 6:47 p.m., a woman was seen running on the Union Pacific train tracks near the Red Lion Hotel. Officers gave chase, and requests were made through dispatch to have all trains stop, however, there was a train fast approaching that could not stop in time. Despite attempts to tell her to stop, the woman continued running as the train was getting closer. Finally, at the last moment she got off the track just prior to the train passing. She was detained and involuntarily committed.

Sept. 7

Man displays knife, bat: 1:23 p.m., a woman was running and screaming that a transient male jumped out of the bushes and threatened her with a knife while she was out on a stroll on the Green River Trail. A K-9 unit deployed in the area and contacted the suspect who was armed with a knife and baseball bat. He threw the knife in the bushes and complied with the officer’s commands. The suspect was identified and arrested for felony harassment. He had a felony warrant for state Department of Corrections escape – third-degree assault and several other Kent warrants.

Jail rescue: 6:44 p.m., officers were dispatched to a CPR in progress at the city of Kent jail. The subject had been arrested about two hours earlier for DUI. Corrections officers performed CPR on him, and Puget Sound Fire took over life-saving measures as King County Medics arrived. Narcan was administered by medics, and the inmate regained consciousness. He was transported to Valley Medical Center in Renton for treatment.

Sept. 8

Body on tracks: 1:50 a.m., officers responded to a train vs. pedestrian on the Union Pacific tracks just south of Willis Street and found a unidentified man with major trauma and deceased. The train conductor and engineer advised they were headed southbound on the tracks and observed the man laying with his legs on the tracks and looking at them. They activated the brakes, but struck the male going 40 mph. The body was taken by the King County Medical Examiner’s Office who were not yet able to identify him. The male was 25 to 35 years old wearing jeans and sweatshirts with a backpack full of items and appeared to be transient.

Multiple gunshots: 6:35 p.m., patrol was dispatched to an illegal discharge call in the area of West Meeker Street and Madison Avenue North. Witnesses reported hearing seven to eight gunshots. Patrol contacted a witness, who reported that he was asked by a man and woman in their 20s and 30s to jump their vehicle. As the witness was trying to help them another vehicle slowly drive past, and the passenger began shooting at the man and woman. The pair fled on foot prior to patrol arrival and were not located. The couple’s vehicle was struck by gunfire and was impounded as evidence. No victims with gunshot wounds were located at local hospitals.
